I Have a Podcast Now, So What?
I actually have more than one, but hell yeah!
It has been over eight months since I started podcasting and I have published over 70 episodes including bonus episodes on the two podcasts that I have been hosting.
I started it as a side project (a hobby) and I used Anchor.fm as my host because it is for free and is so easy to use. It is even possible to create a show with just your smartphone. I started by drafting stories which I could tell by myself and then I invited some of my friends to guest on the show. I got super excited and even had weekly interviews with friends and acquaintances alike.
It was all good until I felt I needed a pause.
Life happens. We take pauses and we need to think through some stuff.
I wasn’t prepared for it and I didn’t have extra episodes available for publishing so I took a mid-season break for two weeks. I didn’t have too many listeners and I wasn’t in demand yet, so it didn’t really feel so bad externally. But internally, I was debating with myself as to why I wasn’t producing as much content as I originally intended.
There is the concept of pod fade — it is the point when the podcast host suddenly slows down into things and in time stops doing the show altogether. This concept is new to me. I’ve heard of it when I listened to a podcast about launching a podcast. The host said one must be ready to publish at least a hundred episodes before committing to running his/her own podcast. I didn’t know that before and I’m glad to know about it now even though I have already come quite a long way.
I am now back. And I am taking things slow again.
I am taking things slow, but I wouldn’t stop the show altogether.
I made a promise to myself that I would be podcasting at least until I turn 30. I will keep that. And when I turn 30, I would have to make another decision whether or not to continue podcasting. If the next 3 years will be good to me, I might continue beyond 30. But that is a decision I have to make in the future.
The decision I have to make right now is to enjoy the process and learn from it.
Aside from hosting my current podcasts, I have also planned to launch a new one that is on a completely different niche. I feel like there’s really no niche for it because I haven’t heard anything like it before, but we’ll see. The plans I have are not concrete and are not set on stone so I’ve yet to see what I’ll eventually have.
I haven’t written on Medium in quite a while.
Quite a lot has changed. While the interface feels the same, Medium’s look has quite changed. I am not sure whether or not I like it. But I’m still here writing because there might still be people who would read me and perhaps it can spark a conversation.
We’re all for good writing, aren’t we?
No?
Well, I’m usually just here to find a good conversation. Or a beginning of a good conversation, at the least.
